This story is about a couple in Australia who found a 30 pound gooey lump on a beach near their home. The fist time they came across the lump they just left it there. On the second visit two weeks later they took it home. On further research they found that this substance was worth a fortune. The substance is called Ambergris. Ambergris is Sperm Whale vomit and is a very rare substance. Current market value is $20 a gram. That makes this 30 pound lump of crap worth $295,000. Ambergris is used in fine perfumes, medicines and flavorings. What's wrong with us? We put Whale vomit all over our bodies for fragrance; we eat it for flavor enhancement and inject it into our bodies to heal us. Yuck! I guess what you don't know won't hurt you. How many of us would have stopped and took a 30 pound lump of goo home? I will be looking a crap on the beach with a different eye from now on. Read the story its unbelievable!

wow. first i thought, gee who would think to take that big lump of crap home? but then i sent the post to my boyfriend, and he said "hunny thats something we would do". the truth is...it is. : ( what is the world coming too?
I'd love to see what that glob looked like. I can't imagine that it looked better after being left. I guess they spent day after day discussing how they should have brought that snot home until they discovered that nobody else grabbed that gravy train first.
Ick ick ick. Makes you wonder what you have in your home that's of value.
I first heard about the purported value of ambergris on the cartoon, Futurama. Thought it was a myth, until I googled it. It's amazing that we consider whale vomit to be more valuable than gold (Gold is around $18 USD per gram at the moment)
Hey at least it wasn't sperm from the sperm whale, right?
