Matthews asks: Why overlook Obama's accomplishments?

Let me finish tonight with President Obama and what he's done.

I say the following because no one else, including the president, has.

It is the hard structure of reality that in the current cacophony so often is overlooked.

This president came into office facing the worst economic outlook since the 1930s. He took action, bold action, the action prescribed by the best economic minds - following the best thinking there is in economics "since" the 1930s.

First, even before taking office, he backed up his predecessor in preventing a major collapse of the financial industry. Everyone involved said it "had" to be done to avoid catastrophe - the destruction of our country's financial spine.

Second, he took the action - again boldly - to powerfully offset the white-knuckle drop in consumer spending and business investment. If he hadn't, no one - including his worst critics - would have any idea what would have befallen us. We can argue about the name it was given - the stimulus bill - but the creation of this great boost in economic demand for goods and services as critical break on what was widely seen as an economic free-fall.

It's easy to stand on the sidelines voting against everything, rooting against everything, and deride that bold action for the simple reason that nobody will ever remember if you had a seriously, reliably better alternative.

Third, the president achieved what so many presidents from FDR on have said needed to be done: end this humiliating dependency of tens of millions of Americans on the emergency room as their only way of getting medical attention. He said our society had a responsibility to look out for its members' health, that individuals should be required to do what they can personally to provide for their care. For the first time in our country's history we are no longer the hold-out in the modern world against broadly-available, accessible health insurance.

It is no time for political high-fiving, for bragging. We know that. The economy is down and people are hurting. But I wonder who's good it does for the president and those who wish him well to overlook the simple, bold, impressive, gutsy facts of what he's got done only now approaching two years in office.

Someone needs to say it.

FAUX News funds 'Ground Zero Mosque'

Is not this the pot calling the kettle black. Ha! Ha! Ha! When did the Burlington Coat Factory become hollowed ground? Why is there still a big hole in the ground after almost ten years after the attack?

I believe any right that you can not exercise is not a right you actually have. Do they have a "right" to build an Islamic Community Center two blocks away form Ground Zero or not?

Did The United States invade Iraq and spend trillions of dollars and spill American blood to free the people there or not?

Amid the howls of outrage over the proposed Islamic community center and mosque near Ground Zero, some political pundits on Fox News, which is owned by Rupert Murdoch's media conglomerate News Corp. (NWS), have been particularly vocal in their opposition to the project.

Last Thursday, popular Fox News host Sean Hannity said the proposed center's leader, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, a U.S. citizen who has spent 25 years working to improve relations between the Muslim world and the U.S., wants to "shred our Constitution" and install "Sharia law as the law of the land in America." Sharia is a body of law derived from the Koran and Islamic teachings.

In fact, in his book What's Right With Islam, Rauf writes that "many Muslims regard the form of government that the American founders established a little over two centuries ago as the form of governance that best expresses Islam's original values and principles." (Page 81.) He has never publicly advocated "shredding" the U.S. Constitution or replacing it with Sharia law.

A Major Backer From the Muslim World

The stridency with which Fox News personalities attack the downtown Islamic center -- red meat for the millions who tune in each night -- is an example of the often uneasy relationship and occasionally diverging interests between many of News Corp.'s properties, in this case Fox News and its parent corporation.

For example, News Corp.'s second-largest shareholder, after the Murdoch family, is Prince Alwaleed bin Talal (pictured at left, and above right), the nephew of Saudi Arabian King Abdullah, and one of the world's richest men.

Through his Kingdom Holding Co., Alwaleed owns about 7% of News Corp., or about $3 billion of the media giant. He also owns 6% of Citigroup -- to which he was introduced by the Carlyle Group -- or about $10 billion of the giant bank. He's a part-owner of the famed Plaza Hotel in New York and has invested in many other prominent companies. (At one point he invested in AOL (AOL), the parent company of DailyFinance.)

Earlier this year, News Corp. invested $70 million for a 9% stake in Alwaleed's Middle Eastern media and entertainment company, Rotana, which "owns the Arab world's largest record label and about 40% of the region's movies -- most of which are Egyptian -- and operates 11 free-to-air television channels, two of which are through a partnership with News Corp.," according to Reuters. (Rotana broadcasts Fox movies and TV shows throughout the Middle East.) News Corp. has an option to double its stake in Rotana for another $70 million within 18 months.

"We Look Forward to Working Together"

Alwaleed has announced his intention to take Rotana public within the next two years, a move that could earn News Corp. a handsome return. In News Corp.'s 2010 annual report recently filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Alwaleed is referred to only as, "A significant stockholder of the Company, who owns approximately 7% of the Company's Class B Common Stock." (Page 44.)

A News Corp. spokesman in New York declined to discuss the company's investment into Rotana and referred inquires to a colleague in London, who declined to comment. Attempts to reach Prince Alwaleed or a representative of his conglomerate, Riyadh-based Kingdom Holding Co., for comment, were not immediately returned.

But presumed News Corp. heir James Murdoch has publicly touted the company's investment in Rotana. James Murdoch, who's the chairman and CEO of News Corp.'s European and Asian operation, has said: "A stake in Rotana expands our presence in a region with a young and growing population, where [economic] growth is set to outstrip that of more developed economies in the years ahead. Rotana is a leading player in the Middle East, and we look forward to working together."

As usual with Murdoch, money trumps ideology. "News Corp. is a big company, and Murdoch makes decisions based on money and business," says Robert Thompson, a professor of TV and popular culture at Syracuse University. "This isn't a conspiracy of the right or the left. It's a conspiracy of money."

The Warren Buffett of Saudi Arabia

Routinely listed as one of the top 10 or 20 richest men in the world, Alwaleed has long cultivated deep personal and financial ties with the U.S., especially among powerful business and government officials. Just consider that in 2002, he donated $500,000 to help fund the George Herbert Walker Bush Scholarship at Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass. Above all, Alwaleed is a businessman and a philanthropist, not an ideologue. He has been very generous to Islamic charities and other humanitarian efforts. Alwaleed is such an influential figure that he's been referred to as the Warren Buffett of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia, which is ruled by Alwaleed's uncle King Abdullah, is, of course, an authoritarian petro-monarchy that actually is governed by Sharia law and is known as one of the top global sponsors of terrorism. A spokesperson for the Saudi embassy in Washington says that while Alwaleed is part of the royal family, he isn't a member of the government, but rather a private citizen.

Alwaleed, like Iman Rauf (pictured at right), professes a desire to build bridges of peace and understanding between the Islamic world and the West. One man is a multibillionaire, with far-flung investments around the world, and the other is a religious cleric, whose congregation happens to be in downtown Manhattan.

Many Fox News pundits seem to have a big problem with the idea that a foreign government or entity with ties to terrorism could help sponsor a mosque in lower Manhattan -- a legitimate concern. But as viewers listen to Fox News pundits rail against Rauf -- and question his center's funding -- they should keep in mind that Fox News is part of a company, News Corp., that has extensive business ties with the Muslim world.

It's just part of running a multinational media giant in today's global, interconnected economy, where alliances and business relationships are more nuanced than the black and white -- good and evil -- viewpoint that many Fox News pundits espouse.

Mississippi school pays damages to lesbian teen over prom dispute.

(CNN) -- A school district in Mississippi has agreed to pay a recent high school graduate $35,000 in damages and adopt a policy prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation, according to a statement released Tuesday by the American Civil Liberties Union.

The settlement comes after the ACLU sued the school district in Fulton, Mississippi, on behalf of Constance McMillen, a lesbian teen who was told by Itawamba Agricultural High School officials she and her girlfriend would be ejected if they attended the school-sponsored prom.

The agreement, which was filed Tuesday, ends the lawsuit.

"I'm so glad this is all over. I won't ever get my prom back, but it's worth it if it changes things at my school," McMillen said in a statement released Tuesday.

The prom, originally scheduled for April 2, was eventually canceled by school board officials who previously said they reached their decision based on "the education, safety and well-being of [its] students."

Officials at McMillen's former high school are not commenting at this time, and a call to the north Mississippi school district seeking comment Tuesday wasn't immediately returned.

According to the ACLU statement, McMillen "suffered humiliation and harassment after parents, students and school officials executed a cruel plan to put on a decoy prom for her while the rest of her classmates were at a private prom 30 miles away."

McMillen believes the alternative prom she was sent to was a sham because only a handful of people attended. "A lot of people were talking about how it was a joke just set up for me," she previously said.

In March, a federal judge ruled that McMillen's First Amendment rights were violated when her school district refused to let her attend her prom in a tux with a girl.

That was good news, said her attorney, Christine Sun, senior counsel with the ACLU's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender project. It set a precedent and helped broadcast an important statement, which was made stronger by virtue of where it came from, she said.

"We're in a conservative area of the country, where people tend to think we can do what we like," said Sun, who lives in New York but has traveled multiple times to Mississippi on McMillen's behalf. "This case sends a strong message that that's not going to fly anymore."

In 2004, the national gay rights group GLSEN -- the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network -- issued a report that said of all 50 states, Mississippi had the most hostile environment for gay youths.

"We hope this judgment sends a message to schools that they cannot get away with discriminating against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students," said Bear Atwood, interim legal director at the ACLU of Mississippi.

Since McMillen's name made national headlines, the lesbian teen advocate has served as the grand marshal for New York's Gay Pride Parade, she received a $30,000 college scholarship from an anonymous donor, and a Facebook page called "Let Constance Take Her Girlfriend to Prom!" had attracted nearly 410,000 fans as of Tuesday.

"It means a lot to me," McMillen said. "The amount of support helps me to continue with the fight."

6-Year-Old Northeast Ohio Girl on 'No Fly' List

WESTLAKE, Ohio - Alyssa Thomas, 6, is a little girl who is already under the spotlight of the federal government. Her family recently discovered that Alyssa is on the "no fly" list maintained by U.S. Homeland Security.

"We were, like, puzzled," said Dr. Santhosh Thomas. "I'm like, well, she's kinda six-years-old and this is not something that should be typical."

Dr. Thomas and his wife were made aware of the listing during a recent trip from Cleveland to Minneapolis. The ticket agent at the Continental counter at Hopkins Airport notified the family. "They said, well, she's on the list. We're like, okay, what's the story? What do we have to do to get off the list? This isn't exactly the list we want to be on," said Dr. Thomas.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations in Cleveland will confirm that a list exists, but for national security reasons, no one will discuss who is on the list or why.

The Thomas family was allowed to make their trip but they were told to contact Homeland Security to clear-up the matter. Alyssa just received a letter from the government, notifying the six-year-old that nothing will be changed and they won't confirm nor deny any information they have about her or someone else with the same name.

"She's been flying since she was two-months old, so that has not been an issue," said Alyssa's dad. "In fact, we had traveled to Mexico in February and there were no issues at that time."

According to the Transportation Security Administration, Alyssa never had any problems before because the Secure Flight Program just began in June for all domestic flights. A spokesperson will only say, "the watch lists are an important layer of security to prevent individuals with known or suspected ties to terrorism from flying."

Right now, Alyssa has other priorities. "My Barbies, my magic mirror and jumping on my bed!" But her name will likely stay on the list and as for the next time she flies, the FBI says they'll rely on the common sense of the security agents.

"She may have threatened her sister, but I don't think that constitutes Homeland Security triggers," said Dr. Thomas.

The Thomas family can still fly, but the check-in process will likely take much longer. They plan on making another appeal to U.S. Homeland Security.

White Rice May Raise Type-2 Diabetes Risk

Rice Lovers pay attention! A new study has taken a closer look at what our selections of rice means for our risk of diabetes. A group of researchers from the Harvard School of Public Heath evaluated three groups of participants and came back with some interesting results. They discovered that eating five or more servings of white rice per week increased a person’s risk for type 2 diabetes, the most common type of diabetes. They also found that replacing just one-third of a daily serving of brown rice would lower their risk. Additionally, including more whole grains such as wheat and barley would also reduce their risk.

Whole grain and whole wheat food products have become commonplace in most American supermarkets and restaurants, giving consumers healthier options with foods like pasta, flour and bread.

According to the American Diabetes Association (ADA), having diabetes affects more than just patients’ blood sugar levels, it also often results in various eye, foot and skin complications, and increases the risk of high blood pressure and heart disease.

The results reported in most cases, eating more brown than white rice was not based on ethnicity and more so on a health-conscious diet and life choices, but noted that participants who ate the most white rice were typically not of European origin and were more likely to have a family history that included diabetes.

The ADA reports that type 2 diabetes is more common in older adults as well as in African Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders.

The team of researchers explained that the superiority of brown rice is due to its high fiber vitamins and minerals and the fact that it typically doesn’t cause a spike in blood sugar. Fiber is a significant fighter against the onset of diabetes because it slows the rush of sugar to the bloodstream. content,

Key potential influencers such as age, weight, smoking status, alcohol intake, family history of diabetes and other dietary habits were taken into consideration but, findings still held true.

Whole grains, rather than refined carbohydrates like white rice, should be the recommended primary source of carbohydrates for the U.S. population.

The most recent available data from the ADA reports that 23.6 million children and adults in the United States — that’s 7.8 percent of the entire population — have some form of diabetes. And 5.7 million people are living undiagnosed.

Water Buffalo Head Traps Man In Recliner!

(NewsCore) - A Florida man was rescued from his recliner early Friday after a mounted animal head hanging on his wall fell into his lap and pinned him down, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

The falling object was a stuffed water buffalo head and it trapped the man as he slept in his recliner, Becky Herrin, spokeswoman for the Monroe County Sheriff's Office said.

The man couldn't move but managed to reach his cell phone and call police.

"All the male caller could do is yell his address and tell them he was 'crushed,'" Herrin said in a statement.

The man was treated at a local hospital and released.

15-Year-Old Brutally Beaten By Indianapolis Police

INDIANAPOLIS — The city’s police chief called Thursday for the firing of a white officer who he said repeatedly struck a 15-year-old biracial boy in the face during an arrest after the teen had been subdued by other officers.

Chief Paul Ciesielski said Officer Jerry Piland needlessly struck Brandon Johnson several times during the May 16 arrest near the boy’s home. Johnson was left with gaping wounds on his swollen face and a black eye.

“It was a difficult decision, but I know it was the right decision to terminate his employment because that certainly serves as an example that we have a zero-tolerance policy,” Ciesielski said at a news conference.

Ciesielski’s recommendation will go to the Civilian Police Merit Board, which ultimately will decide whether to fire Piland.

The teen’s family and black community leaders have called for a federal investigation into whether Johnson’s civil rights were violated. Piland, 36, and the other three officers directly involved in the arrest are white, while Johnson’s mother is black and his father is white.

“I’m grateful to have one bad cop off the streets, but there was a lot of wrongdoing here that day,” Johnson’s mother, Chantay Chandler, said at a news conference Thursday at the family’s home. Family representatives called on the department to fire the four officers directly involved in the arrest, but not a fifth officer who stood on the periphery.

“One token firing is not enough,” said the family’s attorney, Stephen Wagner.

Ciesielski said one of the other officers, Stacy Lettinga, received a reprimand for wrongfully arresting another youth at the scene, and that the three others had been exonerated. None of the five had any prior record of excessive force, and Piland has received several commendations.

Marion County Prosecutor Carl Brizzi said last week that he was investigating the matter and had not decided whether to bring charges against any of the officers. He said he decided not to charge Johnson because it wasn’t in the best interests of the teen or the community.

Don't Let Your Romantic Evening Land You in the ER

Love is a battlefield -- complete with head wounds,

broken bones, and the occasional penile fracture.

While most sex-related injuries don't require a trip to the doctor, getting hurt in the heat of passion is a pretty common -- but seldom discussed -- problem, sex experts say.

Julieanne Smolinski, 26, a New Yorker and blogger for Lemondrop.com, had her own brush with carnal catastrophe when she was in college.

"I did a kind of accidental back handspring off my boyfriend and cracked myself on the head," she says.

"My boyfriend got the worst of it and 'fractured' his penis. We didn't seek medical attention, [but] later I read that penile fractures can be really serious," she says, wondering in retrospect if they should have taken him to the hospital.

Though they can be embarrassing to report to your doctor, sexual injuries are fairly run-of-the-mill in the emergency department, according to a U.K. poll of one thousand adults.

The study, commissioned by a phone-recycling firm, Phonepiggybank.com, found that a third of Brits reported having a sex-related injury -- five percent admitting that they had to stay home from work while on the mend from one of those bedroom blunders

Most often, these mishaps were sustained while having sex in non-traditional settings, such as on stairs, over kitchen tables, or in closets, or when trying new sexual positions.

ABCnews.com asked sex experts and emergency room doctors to weigh in on the kinds of sexual injuries they encounter most often and how to safeguard against them.

Everyday Erotic Accidents

Not all sexual injuries involve the kind of sexual acrobatics that Smolinski tried. Most often, a simple muscle pull or stumble is enough to leaving you throbbing in a less-than-pleasurable way.

In the U.K. study, the most common sex injury was a pulled muscle, with back injuries, carpet burns, and cricked necks pulling in close behind. And perhaps surprisingly, the most dangerous spots for sex were also the most ordinary: the sofa, a chair, or the shower.

In the U.S., "we don't have a good handle on how common [these injuries] are, mainly because people do not admit that that is how they got injured," says Debby Herbenick, research scientist at Indiana University and author of "Because It Feels Good."

"Patients will say they slipped in the shower if it's something [particularly embarassing]," she says.

The most common issue she hears about is small tears or cuts in the vagina, which can occur when sex is more vigorous and there isn't enough lubrication.

Women will often not feel any pain until after sex, because the arousal raises pain tolerance, Herbenick says, but if the cuts are sizable and bleeding doesn't stop on its own, a woman should seek medical attention to prevent infection.

Irritation or tearing from vigorous sex can be minimized by using a lubricant, she says, "but aside from that, there isn't much you can do. If you want to have rough sex, it's going to be … rough."

When Sexual Play Goes Awry

Those working in the emergency room see the more serious cases of sexual injury, says Dr. Billy Goldberg, assistant professor of emergency medicine at the NYU School of Medicine, and "they're not an uncommon complaint." he says.

"People do some strange stuff."

Goldberg says he's seen "a lot of rectal foreign bodies," citing one case in which a man had to be brought to the hospital by his mother after a screwdriver became lodged in his rectum during a sexual act.

Penile fractures, like the one Smolinski's boyfriend may have sustained, are notorious copulation catastrophes, and ones that can cause permanent damage.

One patient of Goldberg's, a man in his sixties, suffered a fracture when he fell down while masturbating in an attempt to rush to the door to lock it when he heard his mother trying to get in.

Penile fractures are not actually fractures so much as tears in the tissue of the penis, Herbenick says. They occur when the erect penis is bent forcefully; there may be a popping or cracking sound.

Women don't escape the wrath of a romantic evening gone bad, says Dr. Gabe Wilson, associate medical director of St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital in New York. He had one woman who came in because her partner had performed oral sex on her too quickly after eating a spicy meal, and she sustained mild burns from the hot sauce.

Lost condoms are a more common affliction for women, Goldberg says, though one that is easily remedied.

A New Kind of Safe Sex

These sexual hazards give new meaning to a desire for "safe sex," but does this mean that protection has to take the form of knee pads and a helmet?

Most of the safety tips are just common sense, says Dr. Mache Seibel, professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Massachusetts Medical school.

"If anything causes discomfort it should be discontinued," he says. "Just because something is supposed to be 'fun,' doesn't mean it works for you."

It's also wise not to push yourself past your own level of flexibility or cardiovascular health, Seibel says.

"Some people can't touch their toes…or have been advised by a doctor not to raise the heart rate [following a heart attack or stroke], so when it starts to get physical or acrobatic, they will have a problem."

Herbenick echoes this sentiment, noting that stretching isn't a bad idea if you're injury prone, and it may be wise to clear the area of pointy objects and keep lit candles a good distance from you.

Also, "keep pets out of the room," she say, citing a recent study she conducted on the subject. Cats have been known to jump on the bed and "scratch at genitals" when they see their owners getting frisky.

Ideally, with a little common sense, and maybe a little warmup, your romantic evening will stay between you and your loved one -- no medical intervention required.

Lena Horne, the silky-voiced singing legend who shattered Hollywood stereotypes of African Americans on screen in the 1940s as a symbol of glamour whose signature song was "Stormy Weather," died Sunday in New York City. She was 92

Horne died at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, a spokeswoman said. No cause of death was given.

Beginning as a 16-year-old chorus girl at the fabled Cotton Club in Harlem in 1933, Horne launched a more than six-decade career that spanned films, radio, television, recording, nightclubs, concert halls and Broadway.

As a singer, Horne had a voice that jazz critic Don Heckman described in a 1997 profile in The Times as "smooth, almost caressing, with its warm timbre and seductive drawl — honey and bourbon with a teasing trace of lemon."

She was, Heckman wrote, "one of the legendary divas of popular music" — a singer who "belonged in the pantheon of great female artists that includes Ethel Waters, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan and Carmen McRae."

Horne, 80 at the time and cutting a new album, took a different view.

"Oh, please," she said. "I'm really not Miss Pretentious. I'm just a survivor. Just being myself."

When Horne first began dancing in the chorus at the Cotton Club — three shows a night, seven nights a week for $25 a week — she did so to help out her financially troubled family during the Depression.

By the time she arrived in Hollywood for a nightclub job in 1941, she had been a vocalist for the Noble Sissle and Charlie Barnet orchestras, had done some recording and was a cabaret sensation at the prestigious Cafe Society Downtown club in New York's Greenwich Village.

She created a similar response, performing at the Little Troc, a small club on the Sunset Strip, where, according to one news account, "she has knocked the movie population bowlegged and is up to her ears in offers."

Signed by MGM to a seven-year contract in an era when no other blacks were under long-term contracts at the major movie studios, Horne went on to become one of the best-known African American performers in the country.

With her copper-toned skin, strong cheekbones and dazzling smile, she was a breakthrough on the silver screen — "Hollywood's first black beauty, sex symbol, singing star," as Vogue magazine described her decades later.

"I was unique in that I was a kind of black that white people could accept," Horne once said. "I was their daydream. I had the worst kind of acceptance because it was never for how great I was or what I contributed. It was because of the way I looked."

Refusing to play maids and other stereotypical roles offered to black actors at the time, Horne appeared in a nonspeaking role as a singer in her first MGM movie, "Panama Hattie," a 1942 comedy musical starring Red Skelton and Ann Sothern.

That set the tone for most of her screen appearances in the '40s, a time in which she appeared in more than a dozen movies, including "I Dood It," "Swing Fever," "Broadway Rhythm" and "Ziegfeld Follies."

In most of them, she had only cameos as a singer, who was typically clad in a glamorous evening gown and singing while leaning against a pillar. It became her on-screen trademark.

"They didn't make me into a maid, but they didn't make me into anything else either," she wrote in "Lena," her 1965 autobiography. "I became a butterfly pinned to a column singing away in Movieland."

Horne's musical numbers usually were shot independent of the films' narratives, making them easy to be deleted when screened in the Jim Crow South.

Two exceptions were the all-black musicals in which she was one of the stars: "Cabin in the Sky" and "Stormy Weather," both released in 1943.

Her memorable rendition of Ted Koehler and Harold Arlen's "Stormy Weather" in the movie became a hit recording for Horne, as well as becoming her signature song.

A World War II pinup girl, the glamorous Horne in 1944 became the first African American to appear on the cover of a movie magazine, Motion Picture.

"Anybody who was not madly in love with Lena Horne should report to his undertaker immediately and turn himself in," actor and friend Ossie Davis said on "Lena Horne: In Her Own Voice," a 1996 installment of PBS' "American Masters" biography series.

"In the history of American popular entertainment, no woman had ever looked like Lena Horne. Nor had any other black woman had looks considered as 'safe' and non-threatening," Donald Bogle wrote in his book "Brown Sugar: Over One Hundred Years of America's Black Female Superstars."

"The Horne demeanor — distant and aloof — suggested that she was a woman off somewhere in a world of her own …. who appeared as if all her life she had been placed on a pedestal and everything had come easily to her. That was the way she appeared to be.... The reality was another matter."

She was born Lena Mary Calhoun Horne on June 30, 1917, in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Her family lived in the home of her father's middle-class parents. Horne's grandmother was active in the Urban League, the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People and the women's suffrage movement.

Horne's father left his wife and daughter when Horne was 3. And her mother, unhappy living with her strong-willed mother-in-law, soon moved out to pursue an acting career with a Harlem-based black stock company.

That left young Lena in the care of her grandparents until she joined her mother on the road in the South a few years later.

Horne was living in Harlem with her mother and her out-of-work stepfather when she left school at 16 and joined the chorus at the Cotton Club in 1933.

While continuing to work at the club, she made her Broadway debut in 1934 with a small role in "Dance With Your Gods," an all-black drama that ran for only nine performances.

Leaving the Cotton Club in 1935, she became a featured singer in the all-black Noble Sissle Society Orchestra but quit two years later to marry Louis Jones, a Pittsburgh friend of her father's who was about nine years her senior.

At 19, she settled into domestic life in Pittsburgh and gave birth to her two children, Gail and Teddy. But she and her husband separated in 1940 and were divorced in 1944.

Although Horne gave up show business when she married Jones, money problems during the marriage prompted her to accept the co-starring role in "The Duke Is Tops," a low-budget, 1938 African American movie musical shot in 10 days.

She also appeared in "Lew Leslie's Blackbirds of 1939," a Broadway revue that had only nine performances.

Moving back to New York after her marriage broke up, Horne was hired as a vocalist for the Barnet orchestra, becoming one of the first black performers to sing with a major white band, with whom she had a hit record, "Good for Nothing Joe,"

After leaving the Barnet band in 1941, Horne began an extended engagement at Cafe Society Downtown, where she first met and became friends with singer-actor and political activist Paul Robeson.

While under contract to MGM in the '40s, Horne met Lennie Hayton, a white staff composer and arranger at the studio who became her second husband.

Fearing public reaction when they married in Paris in 1947, they did not announce their marriage until three years later.

Horne later said she initially became involved with Hayton because she thought he could be useful to her career.

"He could get me into places no black manager could," she told the New York Times in 1981. "It was wrong of me, but as a black woman, I knew what I had against me." But, she said, "because he was a nice man and because he was in my corner, I began to love him."

But being married to a white man, whom she once said "taught me everything I know musically," took a toll — from her impatience with black critics who questioned the marriage to her sometimes using her husband as a "whipping boy" and making him "pay for everything the whites had done to us."

Horne's last film for MGM — a singing cameo in the musical "Duchess of Idaho," starring Esther Williams and Van Johnson — was released in 1950, the same year she triumphantly appeared at the London Palladium.

Primarily due to her friendship with Robeson and her involvement with the Council for African Affairs and the Hollywood Independent Citizens Committee to the Arts, Science and Professions, both of which were named as Communist fronts, Horne found herself blacklisted and unable to appear on radio and television in the early '50s.

But the cabaret business remained untouched by the blacklist, and she focused on her critically acclaimed nightclub/cabaret act.

Her "Lena Horne at the Waldorf Astoria" became RCA Victor's biggest-selling album by a female vocalist in 1957.

"Lena, for most of us, defined the art of nightclub performing," the late cabaret singer Bobby Short told USA Today in 1997. "You can't discount her great beauty, but behind all of that is a great deal of talent and the ability to transmit the composer's intent to the audience."

Horne, who was able to resume appearing on television in 1956, also starred in the hit Broadway musical "Jamaica," which ran from 1957 to '59 and earned her a Tony Award nomination.

Unable to stay in many of the hotels she performed in because she was black, Horne developed what she later described as "a toughness, a way of isolating" herself from the audience as a performer.

"There was no cuteness or coyness about her," comedian Alan King said of Horne on "Lena Horne: In Her Own Voice." "Lena came out there and stuck it right in their face — boom! She was radiantly and subtly brazen, saying to herself, You want to take me to bed, but you won't let me come in the front door.'"

Throughout her early career, Horne experienced the injustices suffered by African Americans at the time.

While touring with the USO during World War II, she was expected to entertain the white soldiers before appearing before African American troops

A day after performing for white soldiers in a large auditorium at Ft. Riley, Kan., she returned to entertain black troops in the black mess hall.

But when she discovered that the whites seated in the front rows were German prisoners of war, she became furious. Marching off the platform, she turned her back on the POWs and sang to the black soldiers in the back of the hall.

Horne's long-suppressed anger over the treatment of blacks in white society erupted in 1960 when she overheard a drunk white man at the Luau restaurant in Beverly Hills refer to her using a racial epithet.

Jumping up, she threw an ashtray, a table lamp and several glasses at him, cutting the man's forehead.

When reports of her outburst appeared in newspapers across the country, Horne was surprised at the positive response, mostly from African Americans.

"Phone calls and telegrams came in from all over," she told the Christian Science Monitor in 1984. "It was the first time it struck me that black people related to each other in bigger ways than I realized."

In the early '60s, Horne became more active in the civil rights movement, participating in a meeting with prominent blacks in 1963 with then-Atty. Gen. Robert F. Kennedy in the wake of violence in Birmingham, Ala., and singing at civil rights rallies.

In the early '70s, Horne faced three personal tragedies within an 18-month period: In 1970, the same year her father died, her son died of kidney disease; and Hayton died of a heart attack in 1971.

Horne later said she "stayed in the house grieving" until Alan King "bullied" her out of her depression, and she returned to singing and recording.

She also toured with Tony Bennett, as well as doing 37 performances on Broadway of "Tony & Lena Sing" in 1974. And she played Glinda, the Good Witch in "The Wiz," the 1978 movie musical directed by Sidney Lumet, her then-son-in-law.

Then, in 1981, she made a triumphant return to Broadway in the hit "Lena Horne: The Lady and Her Music."

Horne, then 63, went on to win the Drama Desk Award and a special Tony Award for her autobiographical show that ran on Broadway for more than a year and led to a Grammy Award-winning soundtrack album and a cross-country tour of the show before going to London.

Her rendition of "Stormy Weather" was, naturally, a show-stopper.

She actually sang the song twice, first as she had in the movie when she was in her 20s and, she said in an interview, she couldn't sing it "worth a toot."

Then, at the end of the show, she electrified her audience by singing it again from the perspective of a woman in her 60s, who had experienced a lifetime of love and misery.

As Horne said in the documentary "Lena Horne: In Her Own Voice": "My life has been about surviving. Along the way I also became an artist. It's been an interesting journey. One in which music became first my refuge and then my salvation."

Horne was a Kennedy Center Honors recipient in 1984, and she received a lifetime achievement award from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in 1998.

The responses include: "yes," "maybe," "if he cuts my health care," and "no."

An Indonesian woman has given birth to an 8.7-kilogramme (19.2-pound) baby boy, the heaviest newborn ever recorded in the country, a doctor said Wednesday.
The baby, who is still unnamed and is 62 centimetres (24.4 inches) long, was born by caesarean section Monday at a public hospital in North Sumatra province, a gynaecologist who took part in the operation told AFP.
"This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of his mum's womb. His legs were so big," Binsar Sitanggang said.
The boy is in a healthy condition despite having to initially be given oxygen to overcome breathing problems, the gynaecologist said.
"He's got strong appetite, every minute, it's almost non-stop feeding," he said.
"This baby boy is extraordinary, the way he's crying is not like a usual baby. It's really loud."
The boy's massive size was likely the result of his mother, Ani, 41, having diabetes, Sitanggang said.
She had to be rushed to hospital due to complications with the pregnancy, which had reached nine months. The baby, her fourth, was the only child not delivered by a traditional midwife.
When a diabetic mother's glucose level is high during pregnancy, the baby can receive too much glucose and grow too large, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Indonesia's previous heaviest baby, weighing in at 6.9 kilos, was born in 2007 on the outskirts of the capital Jakarta, according to the Indonesian Museum of Records website.

I need help with my motivation. I would like to start working out at 5am everyday but when the alarm clock rings half of the time I just roll over. I need someone to workout with me at that time online. I would like to use the WOWY Online Gym with one or more workout partners. We can meet there and begin to workout. I will be using P90X but you can do whatever you would like. You can stretch, Yoga, jump rope or any other program. The online gym is great because you have to show up and workout. If you do not others will know and you will get the usual ribbing and joking about missing the day. I believe I will get up and workout if I know others are waiting for me in the Online Gym. Sarah Palin is to resign as the Alaskan governor. I my never to be humble opinion she is resigning to make a profit and that crap about helping people is just that, crap. It's no secret that she is constantly being investigated for possible ethics violations. Is there something legal problems coming down the pike that the powers that be instructed her to jump ship to benefit the party? Stay tuned because this is the more likely possibility. With the exception of President being a Governor of a state is the most powerful office in politics. In the Senate you are one or one hundred and in Congress you are one of more than 300. The Governor is the one and only boss of the state, top dog. We were hit over the head with that fact during the last presidential election concerning Obama's lack of experience. I hope she is resigning to make a buck (the republican way) and not running from pending legal problems. As I believe that the Republican Party is always wrong and should be destroyed we still need them around to keep the weak and cowardly Democratic Party in check until we (the people) find a better way.

Before I say what I'm about to say I must state that Palin was put in an impossible position by Senator Mc Cain. There is no way anyone could be brought up to speed from Palin's position in time to become a viable candidate for the Vice Presidency. With that said, Palin is a joke! Properly a nice person but never can be a candidate for the highest office, hell most are not. During the election she had no clear answers to simple questions and the answers she did try to give were embarrassing even to me. There were times I was embarrassed for her.

Her fans say she was unfairly treated and attacked. I say if you are Governor of a State, world politics should be at least a hobby and you should be able to answer a few questions. You should at least know what books and magazines you read. Also if you are able to attack the opposition of your opponents and claim you are a "PITBULL" there is no such thing as too harsh.
We should want out leaders to have intelligence and natural curiosity and not be coached. The coaching and training of Palin during the election cost Mc Cain valuable time. Unfortunately we do not know when to cut bait and move on. Pailn will be given many opportunities to damage the Republican Party. Some one please take the shovel from the Republican Party's hands because the hole is getting deep!

Iraq Marks Withdrawal of U.S. Troops From Cities

The United States finally received its flowers from Iraqi citizens. We were told that American Military would be greeted with flowers upon invading the country but only received snipers, roadside bombs and suicide bombers. Before George Bush left office he singed an agreement that U.S. forces would pull back out of Iraq's cities on this day. This day has become an Iraqi holiday and has spurred multiple celebrations all day and night long.

The U.S. Military will still provide support when needed but this will go down as a great day as Iraq will begin to stand owns her own. Hopefully without a puppet government.

Dick Cheney has been seen in multiple instances saying that this pull back will lead to more violence and death. How much more violent can Iraq get? He blames Obama for this pull back. Unfortunate for him it was his administration that signed the agreement that allowed this to happen. Hoping that it turns out bad is not only like shooting your friend in the face, it's bordering treason (maybe not but it sounds good).

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton falls and injures her elbow. She goes to the hospital and is seen right away (I have waited for many hours). Can you do that? She is scheduled for surgery and will get it when she wants it. How much of the bill will she have to pay? Will she get the best of care? I'm not hating on her, I just think we all should have such health care. She she fought for such health care for all it in the 90's but was defeated by the same people who oppose the proposition today. Ironically we are here once again. The United States is the only country in the free world that allows companies to make a profit on primary medical care for it's citizens. Just think about that for a moment! Profit means denial of care in my book. As we try to take better care of ourselves I always believe there must be a better way to get care when you need it.

Man Bites 13 Foot Python to Save His Life

This is a crazy story. What would you do?

What would you do, if a 13' hungry python wrapped itself around you, then literally dragged you up a tree?

This is exactly what happened to Kenyan farm worker Ben Nyaumbe, living in the Malindi area of Kenya.

“I was preparing ugali at 7pm, close to the stable. I stood to pick a packet of flour when the water started boiling.

As I stood up, I stepped on a spongy thing on the ground and suddenly, my leg was entangled with the body of a huge python." [...]

"I would probably have struggled until I was too tired to fight anymore, yet Mr. Nyaumbe had the sense to bite the serpent on the tip of it's tail during a 1 hour exhaustive fight for his life." [ ...]

"It waggled its ragged and scary tail on my mouth. I had to bite it as I struggled, one hand incapacitated,"

Nyaumbe relayed the tale to authorities that he managed to reach his mobile phone in his pocket, just as the python relaxed it's grip at the top of the tree.

His employer contacted the police who arrived with a rope to pull them both out of the tree - hopefully the snake was able to break Nyaumbe's heavy fall to the ground.

Peter Katam, superintendent of police in Malindi district, had this to say:

"The snake had coiled his hands and was trying to swallow him but he struggled very hard. The officers and villagers managed to rescue him and he was freed."

He himself was injured on the lower lip of the mouth - it was bleeding a little bit - as the tip of the snake's tail was sharp when he said he bit it.

When speaking with the Daily Nation newspaper, he told them that the python had probably been hunting livestock (such as goats) when it wrapped his upper body in it's coils.

The police officers were too frightened to shoot the snake, for fear of missing and killing Nyaumbe. Supt., Katam had this to say to the BBC:

"If it wasn't for the villagers and officers who helped him, he would have been swallowed by the snake over the Easter holiday," [...]

He added: "It's very mysterious, this ability to lift the man onto the tree. I've never heard of this before."

Once captured, it was stuffed into 3 sacks and taken to a sanctuary - however, it escaped and has not yet been recaptured.

Such an event would surely be the stuff of nightmares, for the surrounding villagers.

There are plenty of other deadly snakes in Kenya, both venomous and non-venomous.

The green mamba (Dendroaspis angusticeps) hunts and sleeps in trees, and will likely flee rather than engage anyone in a fight.
The black mamba looks threateningly predatory and is brown rather than black. Their name is actually derived from the blue-black color in the inside of their mouths, visible when threatened. They are fast, nervous, lethally venomous and highly aggressive.
Rock pythons are the largest snakes in Africa. They prey on adult impala or gazelles, filling their bellies for 3-6 months.
Python sebae is found in subsaharan Africa and is one of the world's largest species of snakes. Adults reach over 20' and are typically brown in color.

JACKSON, Ohio – Police say an angry 4-year-old Ohio boy grabbed a gun from a closet and shot his baby sitter.

Eighteen-year-old Nathan Beavers was hospitalized Sunday with minor wounds to his arm and side after the shotgun attack. Police say another teen was also injured.

Witnesses told police the child was angry because Beavers accidentally stepped on his foot. Beavers was watching the child at a mobile home in Jackson with several other teenagers and several other children.

Jackson County Sheriff John Shashteen says authorities are investigating. The child has not been charged.

OTTAWA – Researchers say they have located the world's oldest stash of marijuana, in a tomb in a remote part of China.

The cache of cannabis is about 2,700 years old and was clearly ``cultivated for psychoactive purposes," rather than as fibre for clothing or as food, says a research paper in the Journal of Experimental Botany.

The 789 grams of dried cannabis was buried alongside a light-haired, blue-eyed Caucasian man, likely a shaman of the Gushi culture, near Turpan in northwestern China.

The extremely dry conditions and alkaline soil acted as preservatives, allowing a team of scientists to carefully analyze the stash, which still looked green though it had lost its distinctive odour.

"To our knowledge, these investigations provide the oldest documentation of cannabis as a pharmacologically active agent," says the newly published paper, whose lead author was American neurologist Dr. Ethan B. Russo.

Remnants of cannabis have been found in ancient Egypt and other sites, and the substance has been referred to by authors such as the Greek historian Herodotus. But the tomb stash is the oldest so far that could be thoroughly tested for its properties.

The 18 researchers, most of them based in China, subjected the cannabis to a battery of tests, including carbon dating and genetic analysis. Scientists also tried to germinate 100 of the seeds found in the cache, without success.

The marijuana was found to have a relatively high content of THC, the main active ingredient in cannabis, but the sample was too old to determine a precise percentage.

Researchers also could not determine whether the cannabis was smoked or ingested, as there were no pipes or other clues in the tomb of the shaman, who was about 45 years old.

The large cache was contained in a leather basket and in a wooden bowl, and was likely meant to be used by the shaman in the afterlife.

"This materially is unequivocally cannabis, and no material has previously had this degree of analysis possible," Russo said in an interview from Missoula, Mont.

"It was common practice in burials to provide materials needed for the afterlife. No hemp or seeds were provided for fabric or food. Rather, cannabis as medicine or for visionary purposes was supplied."

The tomb also contained bridles, archery equipment and a harp, confirming the man's high social standing.

Russo is a full-time consultant with GW Pharmaceuticals, which makes Sativex, a cannabis-based medicine approved in Canada for pain linked to multiple sclerosis and cancer.

The company operates a cannabis-testing laboratory at a secret location in southern England to monitor crop quality for producing Sativex, and allowed Russo use of the facility for tests on 11 grams of the tomb cannabis.

Researchers needed about 10 months to cut red tape barring the transfer of the cannabis to England from China, Russo said.

The inter-disciplinary study was published this week by the British-based botany journal, which uses independent reviewers to ensure the accuracy and objectivity of all submitted papers.

The substance has been found in two of the 500 Gushi tombs excavated so far in northwestern China, indicating that cannabis was either restricted for use by a few individuals or was administered as a medicine to others through shamans, Russo said.

"It certainly does indicate that cannabis has been used by man for a variety of purposes for thousands of years."

Russo, who had a neurology practice for 20 years, has previously published studies examining the history of cannabis.

"I hope we can avoid some of the political liabilities of the issue," he said, referring to his latest paper.

The region of China where the tomb is located, Xinjiang, is considered an original source of many cannabis strains worldwide.

They would simultaneously be on the phone with their favorite lawyer discussing the future pending case. gotta love the NYC.

I'm a huge Giants fan and I'm wondering how this would affect Plaxico and the team? Will there be criminal charges applied? Most of us cannot legally carry a firearm in NYC let alone fire it in a club. As you can remember Sean "Puffy" Combs was involved in something similar at a club with Jennifer Lopez. The ensuing high speed chase with NYC police woke her ass up and she left the rap world alone after that. Looks like Combs paid a lackey to take the gun charge. I believe that President Elect Obama will use his 100 million people (and growing) organization to help guide him. He got support from the masses and owes no lobbyist or groups anything. I also hope he uses his amazing communication network to get the masses involved and alert us as to who or what gets in the way of us moving this country forward. This should not be difficult as we have witness the technology and communication expertise his organization developed. In this way we the masses can get to work to correct or remove the problem.

I don't want to pile on, but damn! McCain just never got on track with his campaign. First he made a poor VP choice which caused him to waste time and resources to get Caribou Barbie up to speed and having her baggage drag the campaign down. He never was able to get an attack to stick to Obama and has constantly changed his message. He put this Plumber into the spot light by invoking him in a national debate and he turns out to be a liar and a fake. Then he embraces the liar and fake because he was too stubborn to back away from a mistake. You would think that this was McCain's first time running for President with such a poor performance. Sadly it looks like Joe will vote against his own best interest because Obama's plans will benefit him and his family the most. Now McCain and his supporter are reduces to making up these worst case scenarios and dreaming them to be true, and using these fantasies to attack Obama. Desperate!

Obama has preformed flawlessly. His message has been on point. He has carried himself with honor and respect. His ground game has been organized, very mobile and may become legendary. Barack Obama (D-IL) as “Barack the Wealth Spreader,” referring to his proposed tax plan that would provide greater tax relief for lower income individuals than those with higher incomes. Obama recently explained his support for progressive taxation, saying, “I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”

Palin contends that Obama’s characterization of his tax plan revealed him to be a “socialist” who wants to “redistribute” American wealth. Palin argues that the Obama tax plan “discourages productivity,” will “punish hardwork,” and will “stifle the entrepreneurial spirit.”

Conservatives in the media have echoed Palin’s sentiments, insinuating that Obama is a “Marxist” and referring to his tax plan as “welfare.”

But Palin’s criticisms of Obama’s “spread the wealth” remarks are ironic, as she recently characterized Alaska’s tax code in a very similar way. Just last month, in an interview with Philip Gourevitch of the New Yorker, Palin explained the windfall profits tax that she imposed on the oil industry in Alaska as a mechanism for ensuring that Alaskans “share in the wealth” generated by oil companies:

And Alaska—we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. … It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans.

In fact, Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share (ACES) program, which manages the redistribution of oil wealth in Alaska, brings in so much money that the state needs no income or sales tax. In addition, this year ACES will provide every Alaskan with a check for an estimated $3,200.

As Hendrick Hertzberg notes, “Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it…but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.”

I find it strange most people that are complaining about Obama's tax plan are worried about it taking part of their wealth and giving it to someone else. Most of these people have no hope of ever earning $250,000 a year (as 98% of small businesses do not) and quiet frankly have no wealth at all to lose. The only wealth most of these people had was in their homes or 401K earnings and this puts most of them in the red.

The people fueling this backlash are the wealthy that did not include you in sharing the wealth as they raked in Billions, but forced you to share the pain in the form of a Trillion Dollar Wall Street bailout. Don't help them rob you again by parroting their talking points.

Americans must be suffering from mass hypnosis to not only vote against her own best interest, but fight long and hard destroy herself. I'm embarrassed as the world views in disbelief.

Alaska's top newspaper endorsed Democrat Barack Obama for the White House, saying it would be too risky to put their Republican state governor Sarah Palin just "one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world".

The Anchorage Daily News, the leading daily in the overwhelmingly Republican state, called Palin's vice-presidential nomination "an improbable and highly memorable event" and added that "many Alaskans are proud to see their governor, and their state, so prominent on the national stage".

Nevertheless, the newspaper editorial deemed her not yet ready to serve in the White House, and saying the hometown boosterism "does not overwhelm all other judgment".

The paper was even more scathing in its assessment of the top of the Republican ticket.

"Our sober view is that her running mate, Senator John McCain , is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation," the daily wrote.

" Senator Barack Obama , the Democratic nominee, brings far more promise to the office," the Anchorage Daily News said.

"In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand. The same cannot be said of Senator McCain ."

Particularly on the top campaign issue - the faltering US economy - the newspaper said McCain "has stumbled and fumbled badly in dealing with the accelerating crisis as it emerged".

"His behaviour in this crisis - erratic is a kind description - shows him to be ill-equipped to lead the essential effort of reining in a runaway financial system and setting an anxious nation on course to economic recovery."

The news came as Palin announced she will forgo the expensive outfits purchased by the Republican Party for her campaign appearances, and from now on will appear on the stump wearing her own Alaska-bought clothes.

Palin stressed to throngs of supporters at a campaign stop in Tampa, Florida that she was wearing her own jacket, pointing to her blazer, and said she would eschew clothing that wasn't hers, following a campaign kerfuffle over high-priced garb purchased by the campaign for her public outings.

"Those clothes are not my property, just like the lighting and the staging and everything else the RNC ( Republican National Committee ) purchased," said Palin.

"I'm not taking them with me. I'm back to wearing my own clothes from my favourite consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska," she said, adding that she initially had hoped to "ignore this wardrobe thing", but instead has decided to address it head on.

Meanwhile, the McCain campaign received the good news that his home state newspaper this weekend gave the Arizona senator its backing.

"We have seen the irascible McCain. The bawdy and irreverent McCain. And, yes, the temperamental McCain," the Arizona Republic wrote.

"Nobody in the country knows the Republican presidential candidate better than we do. And no one is better placed to judge whether he would serve honourably and admirably as president of the United States.

"We are confident he will. The Arizona Republic proudly recommends John McCain for president."

Joe the Plumber - INSANE?

Some how the Republican party have convinced people that one day they will be rich and that they should vote against their best interest today to prepare. This is crazy and Joe the Plumber is a perfect example of this craziness. Joe told Obama many lies in less than 30 sec. If Joe the Plumber ever woke up from his dream he would realize that all of the things he told Obama that was important to him Obama's plan would better serve him, but he will no doubt vote against his own best interest. How could this be?

Joe is in a fantasy world. Joe the Plumber lied to Obama and said “I’m getting ready to buy a company that makes $250,000 to $280,000 a year,” “Your new tax plan is going to tax me more, isn’t it?” According to some tax analysts, if Mr. Wurzelbacher’s gross receipts from his business is $250,000 — and not his taxable income — then he would not have to pay higher taxes under Mr. Obama’s plan, and probably would be eligible for a tax cut. Also the business he currently works at only grossed about $100K last year and will get a tax cut with Obama's plan and this benefits Joe the Plumber and the business owner. Joe the Plumber has a lot to learn about business.

Joe the Plumber is a lier and lies to himself to believe that McCains tax plan would be better for him. “All contractors are licensed, and he does not have a license, either as a contractor or a plumber,” the union official said, citing a search of government records. “I can’t find that he’s ever even applied for any kind of apprenticeship, and he has never belonged to local 189 in Columbus, which is what he claims on his Facebook page.” Joe the Plumber needs to become more motivated, get a license and begin an apprenticeship program before he should buy a plumbing business. Joe the Plumber only earned about $40K last year. I'm no business Guru but I would think he would have to earn more than that to buy a business worth $250K.

According to public records, Mr. Wurzelbacher has been subject to two liens, each over $1,000, one of which — a personal tax lien — is still outstanding. This leads me to believe that Joe the Plumber is not really worried about paying taxes

He has never corrected it in his registration card.” It would be ironic if Joe the Plumber would be purged for the voter roles because of this. Joe would have to live in an area that is likely to vote for Obama for that to happen.

Why would someone vote against their own best interest? Even more disturbing, why would someone create a fantasy that would justify voting againt their own best interest? Kimo Slice got knocked out in 14 punches recently. Kimbo was the You Tube street fighting sensation. He has been recently marked as the next Mixed Martial Arts sensation. Some how his second fight was a highly promoted main event by CBS. I am a MMA fan and it was easy to see that this guy lacks the skills to even be awarded an MMA contract let alone be promoted as an main event. The has the look of a fighter, but fighting at that level requires advanced skills that he lacks. Kimbo was knock on his ass by a replacement fill in fighter with only 14 punches thrown. When you look at his picture your first thought is "I would not want to run into this guy in a dark alley". Getting knocked out in that manner makes me wonder if you were to scroll down on this picture he would be wearing a pink mini skirt. What Palin did do well was trying to distance McCain form Bush and this was a good strategy. Palin did well but the bull crap was spread thick and the fact it was bull crap will not make anyone change sides. It would have been a home run if she got off the TALKIN POINTS and answered a few questions without the TALKING POINTS, but then she may have fallen on her face. There were times I am sure she did not even hear the question before she began the TALKING POINTS. I must correct myself and state the Sara Palin did not end her career in this debate. John McCain wins the first debate! As I said before, Obama is not a great debater. I do not see why McCain played so much politics the week leading to this debate. McCain was able to control the debate an suck Obama in to his stronger area of topics. Obama agreed with McCain too much, as if he were in a trance. This is where I disagree with America because I can acknowledge when a candidate that I disagree with dose well. This debate is filled with favorable campaign ads for McCain. Obama should have hammered McCain on the economy, support for Veterans, boarder security and much more. McCain was successful on hammering his view on Obama's tax policy and command of foreign policy. I would feel dirty if I did not say that I believe that John McCain would be bad for the country, but I also must say again he did a great job. Obama had an endless arsenal with the last 8 years of Republican rule, the war, scandal and the economy, but did not pull the trigger. I must also say that Obama's performance was more cerebral and may resonate more in days to come and benefit him later. Unfortunately they both came off like politicians, but one looks much more believable and I will leave it there. Now get ready for the spin on both sides.

McCain is one of one hundred Senators and will have no positive affect on the bail out (welfare) negotiations. You can not repair 26 years of poor decision making in one day. If McCain is not a coward he is falling on the sword for his poor VP selection. If the Presidential debate is postponed or cancelled Sara Palin will not have to debate and she will be able to drop the shovel and the hole she has been digging will not get any deeper. Wow, I am sure McCain wish he could get a do over on that pick. It is just going to get worst as time goes on. You just can not thrust someone on to the world stage that way. That was just cruel and is painful to watch. McCain will have to pay for the years of therapy I will need after watching this one. This nonsense about the town hall debates that Obama turned down is a joke. Obama draws tens of thousands to his events and McCain draws tens to events. Why would Obama debate town hall style and make McCain look good by drawing these large numbers and not discuss the facts. I saw one McCain event where most of the twenty people that where there had Obama shirts on and it turned into a Obama rally. If McCain were elected would he run and hide from other world leaders? Is a Maverick a type of chicken? If McCain is a no show Obama will have a few hours of air time that McCain can not afford to give up. Come on McCain, you are better than that. Obama is not a good debater so show up Popeye and get in there and fight.

Stay of execution angers slain cop's family

Troy Antony Davis gets a stay of execution. I find this case fascinating. It looks like almost 20yrs ago Davis intervened in the beating of an older woman. When the police arrived an officer was shot and killed. It is also said that later the person that attacked the woman was seen riding around with the police looking for the shooter. I found some statements from the Davis web site disturbing. I realize that these statements could be biased but it they are true this case becomes scary:

"Shortly after Davis landed on death row, the Georgia Resource Center - which defended death row inmates - took a huge hit in funding at a crucial time for his case. He had no attorney and couldn't depend on the state to help him out.

As witnesses began to recant, there was no one to take their new testimony down.

After all the new information emerged, the courts told Davis there was nothing he could do.

Evidence of police coercion had not been raised during the original trial so his petition to introduce new evidence was denied by a state court.

The state Supreme Court and 11th Circuit Federal Court of Appeals concurred with the lower court's decision, and the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear Davis' case.

How an innocent man could still be executed because of a legal
technicality is beyond my comprehension.

It defies logic and any concept of fairness and justice."

What's wrong with the legal system? Either way both families have suffered needlessly for close to 20yrs with no end in site. I will spend some time looking into this one and I suggest you do the same.

Sixteen US troops from the a unit of the Airborne Division have committed suicide inside a military base in Iraq, security sources say.

Iraqi security sources have revealed that 21 US troops had committed suicide inside a former Iraqi air force base 27 days ago, Fars News Agency reported on Monday.

According to the sources, the 21 troops were treated in a hospital but only five soldiers have survived and they are in a critical condition. Security officials said they used potent narcotics to kill themselves.

The troops' motivations for suicide are not known but according to Iraqi sources the servicemen belonged to a unit of the US Airborne Division that was behind the massacre of several Iraqi families-- mostly women and children-- in northern Baghdad, said Ali al-Baghdadi an Iraqi security official.

The suicides took place in the soldiers' dormitory after the dinner time.
"The bodies of the US troops became misshapen such a way that they looked like 5000-year mummies," said a witness.

According to Iraqi officials' estimates, some 600 US troops, including senior officers, have committed suicide in Iraq since the invasion of the country in 2003. Half of the suicide attempts have been successful.

McCain - Crazy Like a Fox?

Looking at McCain's VP pick I would have to say he is just crazy. I believed he had the presidential election won. Why did he choose Sara Palin? Don't get me wrong I also believe McCain is the worst choice, but there are a few characteristics about the American culture that makes it unlikely that Obama would win. For some reason both parties served up their weakest candidates. I believe that Obama and Clinton are great VP candidates but they have too many negatives to win this presidential election. My feelings on McCain are even worst. Americans deserve better than these two. Now this Sara Palin disaster is a time bomb that is waiting to happen. The negatives are too many and they are still coming. Let's look at the negatives as of today. She was a Mayor of a town of 5700 people. There are some High School Principles that manage more people. The town had a surplus her fist day of office and on her last day there was a deficit of 20 million dollars. She ran against her mother-in law at one point and her best friend eventually became mayor. What type of one horse town is this? I think I just found a place to retire. Her family problems should be off of the table, but when they conflict with her record some feel they should be back in play politically. Her 17yr old daughter being pregnant speaks to her support of abstinence only education, morality and abortion. The fact that her daughter and the child's father are getting married is a great thing, but marriage at that age can be difficult. Sara Palin was also pregnant when she got married and it all seemed to work well for her. I believe these type of personal problems should have nothing to do will your suitability for higher office, but when you openly support the opposite behaviors it leaves the door cracked open. It is good to see that these type of problems don't only happen in the hood or trailer parks as some would have you believe. We would all admit that we would not like to have a daughter unmarried and pregnant if we had a choice. I heard Bill O'Reilly say it was OK because the family was able to financially support the child. What a flip flop against Republican principles. People make mistakes even when they are poor. It is said that her husband is a long time member of the anti-American organization Alaskan Independence Party. Now the party has played down his participation, but the truth will come out, This is the world stage. I must admit that this is not as bad as Obama being a radical Muslim and Michelle being a radical Black Panther. Sara Palin is now under investigation for abuse of power. This dose not speak well about the vetting process. Only time will tell, but why select Sara Palin? They say she has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. Americans are smarter than that. Obama was president of the Harvard Law review, has 12 years of legislative experience, two years in the Senate writing bills and supporting real law that will have world wide impact. He also stood up against the power that be and did not support the war. Since college he has been working and living what he is still preaching today and will like to make it happen on a large scale if given the chance. Sara Palin seems to be a great person but running a small town into the ground and almost two years as governor of the least populous state in the union may not compare. Out of all of the possible candidates why Sara Palin? Is it because she is a woman? American women are too smart for that. They do not want undeserved affirmative action, they just want their fair share. When she is attacked (and she will be) you can not claim some sort of anti-feminist motive. Women do not hold that crazy team mentality that men do and will see the attacks on Clinton's pant suits, fat ankles and shrill voice one in the same as any attack on Sara Palin . Their feelings will cross party lines and the sisterhood will not be used for political purposes. World leaders will not take it easy on her. As VP she would have to lead the Senate. With her wealth of experience she will have to also debate Joe Biden on world issues, this should interesting. Worst yet she will have to step on to the world stage and deal with reporters that will ask real questions with no experience in her new found fish bowl. This will be brutal. Why would McCain do this to this woman? This fish bowl will include her daughter and why would she do that? Believe it or not I wish her luck because the American people deserve the best and a 72 year old man that has survived recurring skin cancer four times needs a great VP.

FOX NEWS - Drops the ball

I would have hated to have been a commentator for FOX NEWS this week of the Democratic Convention. They looked very uncomfortable as they tried to push politics rather than news. Politics aside the Democratic Convention displayed great American stories and beliefs. The FOX NEWS commentators had a very hard time spinning these stories and beliefs to the point of stumbling, some dead air and uncomfortably repeating the same old talking points. We all know that all political conventions are staged and this Democratic Convention was done so beautifully. It was a mistake for FOX NEWS to try to push the Republican talking points at this time. They made have violated one of the first rules of successful combat. Never battle on the field of the enemy's choosing. The FOX MEWS commentators were reduced to repeating the phrase "I know your are, but what am I?". Sad! FOX NEWS would have been better served by dropping the Pom Poms and becoming a real news organization for a change. That may be too much to ask for, but one day it may happen. Are there any real main stream news organizations out there anymore? I'm serious! Most news organizations are either opinion and commentary soap operas or Paris Hilton talking head shows. I remember the days when the news was the news. Someone came on and told you what was going on and it was done in order of real importance. No commentary, Paris Hilton and Brittney Spears would have never made the evening news unless they killed someone. News was a public service and the news organizations were never expected to make a profit. I won't rant anymore, but you get the point. Now that the Republican Convention is next week and I would be surprised if the coverage is as disgusting as FOX NEWS coverage of the Democratic Convention. I'm biased but fair so if it is please come back and keep me honest. One day FOX NEWS will get off of it's knees, discard the knee pads and stop giving the Republican party the endless Lewinsky. When that day comes they may become a real news organization. NOT!

An Australian man and his adult daughter have gone public about their relationship after having a baby together.

John Deaves, 61, and his daughter Jenny, 39, have a nine-month old daughter but have been banned from having sex after a court convicted the pair on two counts of incest, placing them both on a 3-year good behavior bond. Their previous child died a few days after birth.

Mom tells rude cops: 'His name is not boy'

Dear Supt. Weis: I'm still not sure you grasp the level of frustration that exists among some black residents in Chicago. So here is an example of the kind of calls I get from African Americans on a regular basis.

LaWanda Jordan is a black single mother of four who lives in a neighborhood near Midway Airport. There are only two black families on the block in a community that is predominantly Hispanic and white.

On Dec. 11, Jordan was shaken awake about midnight when police officers showed up at her apartment building looking for a young black male.
'Do you have n - - - - - - in the building?'

"Do you have a black family in the building? Do you have n - - - - - - in the building?" one white police officer allegedly asked the landlord, who lives on the first floor.
Jordan said she ran to her door and put her hand on the top of the chain and her foot against the door.

"What is this concerning?" Jordan asked.

"We need to talk to him NOW. You don't ask the damn questions, you just answer the questions," he allegedly replied.

Apparently, 12 police officers and two detectives were investigating a shooting that occurred 35 blocks from where Jordan lives.

Although her son Paul Turner had been home all evening, Jordan said she sent her daughter to her son's bedroom to wake him up. He came to the door in his boxer shorts. When the teen told police he had been home all night, an officer allegedly said: "Don't get cute with me, boy."
"I told him his name is not boy," Jordan said.

None of the officers was black, Jordan told me. One of the cops allegedly put his foot about three feet over the threshold of her door.

"You don't have a warrant," Jordan, a mortgage collector, told the officer. At that, an officer allegedly told another officer: "I will pull this black b - - - - down the stairs."
"You'll do what?" Jordan said she asked the officer.

As it turns out, an unidentified witness whom the officers brought to Jordan's door to identify her son told police that he was not the person they were looking for and, in fact, police should have been looking for an adult male.
"There were nearly 15 police officers in my hallway trying to railroad my son, being belligerent, calling me out of my name, using racial slurs and trying to accuse him of a violent crime," Jordan told me.

"They used intimidation and scare tactics," she said. "I feel my civil rights were violated."
After the officers abruptly left, Jordan said, she followed them to the street and asked some of them for their names and badge numbers.

"They covered up their badges and name tags," she said, adding that a female officer ignored her and jumped into a squad car and drove off.

The next day, Jordan filed a report with the city's new Independent Police Review Authority.
Jordan suspects that her 14-year-old son had been targeted by one of the Hispanic officers who had once confronted him in a mix-up over a bike. She now worries that her two sons -- one a 19-year-old college student -- will be harassed by police.

Waiting for police review
Although her story was recently profiled on the front page of the Chicago Defender, nothing has yet been done to address the cops' behavior. She was contacted by an investigator with the authority, but still has not had an interview. She said an investigator assigned to her case told her she didn't work weekends. "My children are at school between 8 and 3 p.m., and I am at work. Looks like to me, the investigator could have come in on a Saturday or have given the case to someone else."

Ilana Rosenzweig, head of the the authority, said there was an apparent miscommunication.
"All of our investigators work shifts that have them working a weekend rotating schedules" she said. She also conceded that "it has been difficult to get the resources to do interviews in the field."

"We want to give this investigation as timely attention as we can, and that is always our goal," she said.

Meanwhile, the accused police officers are still on the street.
So you see, Supt. Weis, it is not just the questionable police shootings and allegations of blatant police brutality that have created a culture of distrust among some of the city's citizens.
It is also the large doses of disrespect that some of those citizens are forced to swallow.

There is a floating garbage patch growing to twice the size of the state of Texas. Do to ocean winds and currents this patch is not stationary. It generally floats in the ocean between Oregon and the Hawaiian Islands. In short this is a man made disaster! This massive patch is the world’s largest garbage dump. Unfortunately it’s mostly made of the worlds waste plastics. Because plastics are not biodegradable the ever growing mass is becoming a major environmental disaster. Fish mistake the plastic as food and when consumed stays with in their bodies until they die. Lager fish have had many plastic objects removed for their bodies when autopsied. Bush recently said "Children’s do learn". I never like his "No child left behind plan" for many reasons. Now that I think about it, if this plan was operational when bush was in grade school he would have never made it. He would not be President and we would not be in this mess! The video shows another Bush blunder on this topic. I became politically active at the beginning of the Clinton Presidency. I was a new father and I wanted to make the country better. I liked Clinton and listened to talk radio (Rush and Shawn) all day. I felt that they were educating me. I still liked Clinton and thought they were very hard on him. In my eyes I thought this was something positive because you can do that in the United States. When Bush became President I was not upset. I felt it may be good. I did not vote for him but still. Bush, how bad can a Republican be? Boy did I find out. I found the problem to be my talk radio heroes stopped being critical of the President! I quickly found out that these people do not have the best interest of the American people at heart. They are willingly to hold their nose and support this Presidency. Half of the United States is willing to do the same. We had too much pride to say we were wrong about this guy. This has forced us to ride this disaster to our doom. By saying you were wrong about this guy dose not mean your life long philosophy was wrong. I just means that this was not the guy the implement it. This would have put us back on track and we would not be the laughing stock of the world. Our president appears to be and IDIOT and many make excuses for him. He was wrong about everything on all levels and some make more excuses. No one had the balls to take the shovel out of his hands before the hole became too deep. Now look at what we have done. Too much Pride is a sin!

He is also the President of a large youth organization in Florida. (It gets worst) When the mother (Police Officer) wanted reassurance the daughter would not be hurt. The sick bustard said "I am always gentle and loving; not to worry, no damage ever, no rough stuff ever. I only like it soft and nice." The undercover detective asked how Atchison can be certain of no injury. He responded, "Just gotta go slow and very easy. I've done it plenty," according to detectives. If we have an enemy that is a real threat to the United States we should band together and all should sacrifice. That means seizing industry, drafting all that are able and sending overwhelming force to destroy the threat in a week. If not that we should not go to war. I really believed that I did not care about money. When I first saw this video I got a hard-on or at least it moved a little. I wonder how much money was there before the filming. Hell I wonder how much is there now? ($2 Million) I hope if I had that much money I would enjoy it and not try to make more. We have people in our society that have more money than they could ever spend and they still try to earn more. They by political influence, they create companies and they even commit crimes. Hell most of them are part of the United States government. I will leave the current administration alone this time. It’s hard considering what's going on now. In the tri-state area (NY, NJ CT) Mayor Bloomberg and Governor Corzine comes to mine. Hell I have come to like these guys but still. They both have more money than they can ever spend and they seem to still work. I like these guys because their salaries and not that great but they seem to work hard. Bloomberg will not take a salary and Corzine step down form a higher position (U.S. Senator) to become New Jersey's Governor and spent$50 Million of his own money to do it. I will not speculate anything sinister in these actions but I will be on the look out. I would like for some one to explain the logic to me. Back to the room of cash. OJ is an ass! He may have lost his mind but he is an icon for the sad state of race relation in the United States. I was one of the few people I know that was able to follow his trial blow by blow for a year. I was working as a Cable Technician in Jersey City New Jersey. I drove around all day glued to my radio. OJ Simpson still to this day shows how poorly races get along in the United States. We politely pretend that relations are good. We even fool ourselves to believe that we can teach other nations how to get along. Look at the OJ Simpson trial and you will see that many blacks were happy he won and many whites were appalled. Many blacks may not have even cared if he did it or not. They just in some way felt that one got over and that was a refreshing change of pace. Many Whites can't stand the fact that a black man may have escaped punishment for the possible crime of killing a white girl. OJ will be watched and hunted for the rest of his life because of that fact. OJ was tried in a court of law and acquitted. That should mean something in the United States. I must admit that the state of California blew the case but that’s the way it goes. I'm afraid to even check the statistics on how many women (or people) that were killed in the United State in that year. Almost all with out a care from the public. The only difference is the OJ case had race, money and sex. We are a sad society because we are still intoxicated with this madman. He may have killed two people so what! We have a legal system that should handle people that commit crimes. Blacks and White are so blinded with the pain of racism that we can't even see that the universe had given us all what we carve in this case. Many blacks may be happy that one black man has beaten the rap and some how that may make up a little for hundreds of years of injustice. Many whites may feel that a black man may have killed two young white people and walked. We all win! Really! If OJ was convicted he would have served maybe ten years and be free by now. People would have been somewhat satisfied and left him alone. Some people were happy that he walked but don't realize that OJ will suffer the punishment of public opinion for the rest of his life and that's the worst punishment possible. Everywhere he goes he must endure the chants of "MURDERER". Hell give me the ten years! That’s no way to live. You can shake your head in disagreement but the facts support what I'm saying. The opinion of OJ's guilt or innocence is almost entirely split along racial lines. If I'm mistaken you explain it. This guy was an asshole be for the murders and is still an asshole. Why do we care so much? That's for the family of the victims to do because we really don't care. We don't hurt and think about these victims everyday. Hell our fake interest is really an insult to the families and the people who really care. People are murdered everyday in the United States and we don't really care. You may know, live near or work with a convicted murdered who has served his time and no one cares!

No hate crime charges in torture case!

CHARLESTON -- U.S. Attorney Charles Miller announced Wednesday that his office will not seek federal charges in the alleged rape and torture of a Charleston woman.

Megan Williams, 20, was recovering at Charleston Area Medical Center's General Hospital after
police said she was kidnapped, beaten, tortured and held against her will at a home in Logan County. Six people have been charged in connection with the incident.

"Because of the serious nature of the pending charges in Logan County, both in the factual allegations and in the potential penalties if the defendants are convicted, we have and will continue to work closely with local authorities," Miller said in a release. "At this time, we believe it is appropriate to defer to the Logan County Prosecutor in pursuing the state charges against the defendants.'

Because Williams is black and the six suspects are white, some have called on authorities to classify this as a hate crime.

"There is no doubt, from what I've seen, that race was a contributing factor," said Logan County Prosecutor Brian Abraham. "Whether it was the sole motivating factor or a motivating factor, I want to wait until we get all the evidence in to this office before I make that determination."

Williams' mother said Tuesday the family is trying to cope.

"I know the Lord will somehow bring us through this, but you know, it's just devastating," said Carmen Williams.

Deputies say they received a tip Saturday that a woman was being held against her will at the Brewster residence in the Big Creek area of Logan County, according to a release from the Logan County Sheriff's Department.

When police arrived, Frankie Brewster was sitting on the front porch. She told the officer that she was alone, the release said.

As she was speaking with the officer, Brewster got up and started walking toward the door. That's when police say the victim "limped toward the door with her arms held out saying 'help me,'" the release said.

They found the Megan Williams inside the home with stab wounds to her legs and bruised eyes, the release said. Deputies said she'd also been sexually assaulted.

Family members say the nightmare began at least a week earlier.

"She has a history of kinda drifting off every once in a while so I just thought she was running around town like she usually does," said Carmen Williams

Authorities say Megan was being held hostage by 24-year-old Bobby Brewster and his mother, 49-year-old Frankie Brewster.

Police say the Brewsters, as well as four other suspects, tortured Megan Williams for days by severely beating, stabbing and raping her.

Police say they forced her to perform sex acts on multiple people. She was even made to lick up blood as well as rat and dog feces, according to court documents.

"I was shocked. I really can't understand how anybody could do anyone like that," Williams said.

The criminal complaint shows the group threatened to kill Megan if she left and shouted racial slurs at her during the abuse.

Carmen Williams said she thinks race did play a part in the ordeal, but now she is just focusing on her daughter's recovery and hoping others can learn from their story.

"I want other parents and other mothers to realize that there are people out there like that. To keep a closer eye on their children," she said. "You never think it'll happen to your child but obviously I never thought, but here we are."

The victim's most severe injuries include a fractured arm and a deep stab wound on her leg.

Deputies are still trying to determine just how long Megan Williams was held against her will. They say it could have been a week or longer.

"I mean, I've been in law enforcement for over 30 years, and this is probably the most horrendous thing that I've ever seen or ever encountered," said Logan County Sheriff Eddie Hunter.

Those charged include Frankie and Bobby Brewster, Danny Combs, George Messer, Karen Burton and Alisha Burton, the release said.

They face a slew of charges including kidnapping, sexual assault and malicious wounding.

Karen Burton – charged with malicious wounding, battery, assault during the commission of a felony.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Logan County, she pulled the victim’s hair, choked the victim, cut her ankles and told her “that’s what we do to niggers around here.”

Bobby R. Brewster – charged with kidnapping, first-degree sexual assault, malicious wounding, assault during commission of a felony.

According to the criminal complaint, Brewster forced to victim to have sex with him, threatened to kill her, stabbed the victim and forced her to eat rat and dog feces and drink from a toilet bowl.

Danny J Combs – charged with first-degree sexual assault and malicious wounding.

According to the criminal complaint, he forced the victim to have sex with him at knife point.

Frankie Lee Brewster - charged with giving false information, second-degree sexual assault, kidnapping, malicious wounding.

According to the criminal complaint, Brewster forced the victim to have oral sex with her, threatened to kill the victim and withheld information from police when they arrived at her residence to investigate a missing person report.

Alisha Burton - charged with assault during the commission of a felony, battery.

According to the criminal complaint, Burton beat and choked the victim.

The suspects had lengthy criminal records

In 1994, Frankie Brewster was indicted on first degree murder charges, but pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in the shooting death of an 84-year old woman. In March of this year, her son Bobby Brewster, was charged with brandishing a deadly weapon. Last year he was charged with battery on a police officer.

Combs' criminal history includes a malicious wounding charge in 2006.

Messer has several domestic violence charges, including second offense domestic assault and burglary.

Karen Burton and her daughter Alisha have also been arrested on numerous occasions. Karen Burton has been charged with assault on a police officer. Her daughter was charged with domestic assault in May.

The people at BET may have been temporarily insane. To create and name a new show "Hot Ghetto Mess" boarders on suicide. Hell it may be funny or even good show but still. The hypocrisy here is that if a channel other than BET would have tried to do this they would have had hell to pay. The usual cast of characters would have raised hell. It took the sponsors to regain their sanity and begin to pull out before the clowns at BET got a clue and began to spin the story. Be careful the spin may cause dizziness. BET SUCKS! I wonder if the fact that BET is no longer Black owned may have contributed to the insanity. I don't think so! Someone just convinced them that it would be profitable thats all. I would like for someone to say "We just made a mistake". Just once, instead of lie about it.

Lost Cell Phone!

I recently lost my Cell Phone. A Motorola Moto Q. I was going to the bank ATM and somehow it dropped into the street. I realized it about an hour later. Knowing how the world is I just chalked it up as a lost. Then I remembered recently returning a lost iPhone I found at Newark Liberty Airport. Remember how happy that person will be when the Phone was returned. I must add that that was a nice Phone; Steve Jobs have done it again. I said to my self "Than must have built some brownie points for me somewhere". I went back to the bank and there was no Phone. I went home and called the Phone many times and got voice mail. Then someone hung-up on me about ten times. Then I sent the phone voice and text messages that I would be offering a reward for its return. Now guess what happens! Finally I got a voice on the Phone. People really suck! Unfortunately I could not hear the person well. So I yelled the phone number at my location several times into the phone and waited. I forgot to mention about the $50 dollar reward I yelled also. Finally the low life called me back. I call him a low life because of the following. My phone rings and the voice on the phone say "Yeah" in a monotone voice. This kind of pissed me off. Then I say "Are you calling about the lost Cell Phone"? He says "Yeah" again. Now I have visions of meeting this guy and throwing him an old fashioned beating. Unfortunately I'm somewhat civilized. I said that I was unable to hear him and asked if the Phone was damaged. This was likely because it must have fell in the street when I saw getting out of the car. He says maybe. This began to sound like a back door drug deal so I assured him that I would pay the reward regardless of the condition of the phone. He gave me his location and I go there. He's out front with another guy that has a bat! You know where I wanted to store that bat! But the civilized thing came into play. We made the exchange in a 007, Good Fellas, New Jack City fashion and my faith in humanity dropped another notch. The Phone had been run over by a car and was toast. I purchased that Phone at full price less that 24Hrs before it was lost. My original phone died and I did not have protection. Paying $50 for the return of a smashed Phone was still worth it. I just spent $60 for the extended battery 3Hrs before it was lost. The leather case was worth $35 and I need to sync the info on the phone and that was priceless. Now that I have protection on this phone lets see what happens. Ironically I recently gave a long speech about the reason I returned the wildly popular lost iPhone to my 13 year old son. He insisted that I should have kept it and gave it to him. He walked a way accepting the lesson but not really buying it. Now he looks at me with an "I Told You So" smile but we will have another talk soon. Oh did I mention that people suck!

Another GAY Republican!

Senator Craig is in deep shit. This is another Republican Gay scandal. I would usually jump all over this but today I feel sorry for the man. It's sad that in the year 2007 a well to do, Powerful man feels he has to go to an Airport bathroom to be himself. This must be a sad existence. This is a 62 year old man living in fear for most of those years. He spent a lot of his time trying to deny rights to Gay Americans working in the Senate. Why? When you hear the police interrogation recordings his purpose for being in that bathroom in unmistakable. On the other side there is some false reporting going on. If you rely on word of mouth the story will change. The latest is that he approached a Police Officer and they had to break down the bathroom door to get him out. The truth is Mr. Craig did do some well known things to get a man's attention in an Airport Bathroom. He also pled guilty to a some what lesser crime. Unfortunately that person was an undercover Police Officer. Mr. Craig did try to use his position to get away with it. It's reported that he said I'm a U.S. Senator, what do you think of that? The Office should have said, this will make your re-election difficult now put your hands behind your back. When a 62 year old married man in his situation says that he is not gay I tend to believe him. To stay married as long as he has and to be involved in gay sex scandal after gay sex scandal year after year he must be bisexual. So what! These people should be themselves and live and let live!

VICK - Whats the Big Deal?

A football player was involved in dog fighting. What’s the big deal? The details are gory and I don't agree with crulity on any level but what the hell. It's dog fighting! I must say that this maybe the height of hypocrisy. When most people cut into that juicy steak or bite into that juicy thick hamburger they must believe that the animal met its demise do to extremely harsh language. The truth is that the animal was brutally murdered. This is acceptable. I once saw a machine that kills chickens, cuts the heads off and removes its feathers in minutes. It must have killed hundreds a day. I mean if you look around you must agree that chickens really catch hell! Walk down any main street in the United States and you will find it scary how much chicken is offered. It's all acceptable." Vick was involved it dog fighting and now he will going to jail. If he ran a slaughter house or chicken joint in the eyes of most it would be accepted. He may get a guest appearance on the Food Network. One of the problems I have is that this man makes a living as a Football Player. This is the most violent sport on earth. He has some of the biggest, strongest, fastest men in the world trying to kill him with the cheers of tens of thousand egging them on. They beat the crap out of each other to gain or prevent their opponents’ from gaining an inch. When that football moves an inch the ass kicking begins. There is punching, kicking, spitting, cussing and violent collisions. Vick has some of the worlds biggest, strongest and fastest men in the world staring at him every snap of the football. He knows that if they ever get their hands on him they will try to break him in two and the crowd will love it. After that dog fighting maybe relaxing. This man will also lose a One Hundred Million Dollar contract because of dog fighting. I'm more concerned that a player in Vicks position is involved in gambling. It would be very easy for Vick to affect the out come of a game to his advantage. The NFL should be more concerned about that. Again, as the facts come out I’m sure the details of how these animals were killed will be cruel. I just find it strange that we treat our animals better than we treat people in our society. We cry about pets being mistreated but we will step over and look down on our homeless. We call the police when we think a pet is being mistreated but animals are getting their heads cut off and guts ripped out daily as food for human consumption. Cruelty is cruelty. What is acceptable? Vick will be hounded by animal rights groups so bad that OJ Simpson will say “Damn, I’m happy I’m not him”

Terroist Steal 200,000 Assault Rifles

How in the hell can that happen? These guns were AK-47's that were used for the 90's war in Bosnia. These guns were to be delivered to Iraqi Security Forces. The story says that the delivery was "contracted via a complex web of private arms traders". How convenient! That’s a load of crap. Those guns were sold out of the back door and no one will be held accountable. The airline (Moldovan) to transport the shipment was blasted by the U.N. in 2003 for smuggling arms to Liberia. I'm sure that was widely known and was one the deciding factors in using them. Most people in the know agree that the stolen Assault Rifles went to al-Qaeda. This is sad for the Men and Women on the ground in Iraq thinking they are fighting a war on terrorism. They will be shot at with weapons that they may have actually paid for themselves. I must sit down and really let that sink in! They say that no one can find the lost weapons and the air traffic controllers in Baghdad have no record of the flights which supposedly took off between July 2004 and July 2005. That right this was going on for a whole year and no one caught on. YEAH RIGHT! They say that U.S. officials admit that $270 Million Dollars of missing equipment can't be traced. Here is the real kicker! The Moldovan Air Firm was stripped of its license by its national authorities a day before the first shipment. That’s called plausible deniability. It looks like the U.S. and the British are using this war to rob the American people blind. Bush says he is trying to keep the American people safe but POOR and is doing a great job. This administration has done such a poor job in all possible facets that they make Bill Clinton look better that Jesus. How ironic that these 200,000 AK-47 Assault Rifles were used Bosnia in Bill Clinton's time and remained there until the climate was changed by The Bush Crime Family in a way that someone felt (or was ordered) comfortable enough to begin to steal them in 2004. They say the boss of the company dictates the climate of that company. In most companies if the bosses are stealing the employees will feel that it's ok for them to do so too. To prepare for an upcoming exam, students at a Washington state college last month were given a sample test that contained an algebra problem involving someone named "Condoleezza," watermelons, and a federal building. Call me too sensitive but I smell a RAT here. I think that this is not just a coincidence and is a racial dig. Well check out Question #25 and tell me what you think. This is not just a racial attack on Condoleezza Rice but also Black America. If you know me you know that I’m not a fan of Mrs. Rice. I disagree with her on all fronts. I even believe that she was given a job that she was not qualified for. She has worked with Chevron, goggle “Condoleezza Rice Oil Tanker” then click images and you will see pictures of the Oil Tanker named after her. (It’s also on this page) She is part of the Oil Mafia “Bush Crime Family”. With that said I can not take her true accomplishments from her and I give her all do respect for them. Even with her great accomplishments she is still just the “N” word in the United States. I wonder what her standing in the rest of the world is. It can’t be more than what it is here in the United States. What makes her job all but impossible is that she has to deal with Arab Nations that really don’t regard women as equals. Especially women of her ethnic persuasion. They fondly refer to her as the “Black Widow” and they insist that it’s not racial. They say it refers to her behavior. I know you can say the test question may just be and isolated incident but you must admit it’s a bold one. I watched from the shores of New Jersey as both of the WTC towers fell. I have visited and done work at the WTC many times. In the United States as in the rest of the world two cultures existed there. Some people where just Workers (Blue Collar) and some were Employees (White Collar). All of a sudden with the collapse of the towers the workers became all important also. So all important that we were willing to give the families over $1 Million Dollars to help compensate them for their lost. Even the below minimum wage illegal immigrant's families. When just the day before some were looked down opon. Sometimes I feel that this was done just to show off to the rest of the world and not to solely benefit the families of 9/11. I feel that way because of some of the things that were done afterwards. Like sending our military to fight two Wars on the cheap, without some very important equipment and the like. We are also wasting American lives trying to get the many different ethnic and religious factions in Iraq to get along and we are far from it here. What's up with China? Among new trends are "Nude Wedding Photos". I'm sure that will help men be more interested in going to weddings! I know when visiting friends and the women suggest that we "look at the wedding photos" most men would cringe. Maybe not now in China. I don't know if that would be for me. I can't think of many positives to it. Well maybe when I was in my 80's I could show the great grand kids that I was hot once, if that's a good thing. They may need therapy afterwards or have nightmares but what the hell. From my research I could only find photos of the Brides and not the Grooms. For me that's just fine but for some it may seem sexist. How many of you would have nude wedding photos? Would it stop with just you and not move to the wedding party? Would your parents or even grandparent strip down to their undies to celebrate your union? Hey good times (I Think). China seems to be booming and living it up on all of the money that the United States is borrowing daily. We in the United States maybe taking our wedding photos and all of our other photos in the nude because we will be too broke to afford clothes from paying off the U.S. debt. We as a nation had a surplus of money a few short years ago and now our deficit grow at over $2 billion dollars daily. If that was one of your credit card bills you would faint! Just realize that the money is somewhere, it's just no longer in the U.S. budget. Who has it? Where did it go? Who ever pulled this robbery off was brilliant. The victims (the people) still doses not know it even gone. Are they just stupid! Maybe The American Idol is just more important!

Ambergris is used in fine perfumes, medicines and flavorings. What's wrong with us? We put Whale vomit all over our bodies for fragrance; we eat it for flavor enhancement and inject it into our bodies to heal us. Yuck! I guess what you don't know won't hurt you.
